Every time I try to rip a DVD, I get an error and Videocharge closes down.

It happens whether I acceess the ripper feature through the Wizard or by "adding a DVD".

I am on Windows XP, Pentium 4, plenty of RAM. DVD drive is fully functional otherwise.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

We recommend you to update your version of VideoCharge to v.3.5.10.
If this doesn't help, please write about the problem in detail (describe the sequence of actions that gives rise to crash, attach the config file if necessary) to support@videocharge.com
