VideoCharge FULL versions 3.9.0.05 and 3.9.1.06 always encode to DV with 720*480@25.

Even original DV file taken from the PAL camera with 720*576@25 is encoded with NTSC resolution and PAL framerate (it is stupid to reencode into the same format but i did it for testing purposes).

But no problems with Uncompressed RGB.

So before paying for VC I need to know if ignoring of the screen 6: Please set the frame options of the wizard or the Frame tab in the main interface is a limitation of the trial version or it is a continuous bug?

But what format did you select for the output? VideoCharge is not able to reencode videos into DV format, so it seems to be a kind of misunderstanding.
Anyway, please send us the config file you worked with (to support@videocharge.com or attach it to the post). We'll examine it and probably gain an understanding of the problem.

I do not understand what do you mean when speaking about the config file I'm working with. I will do what you request if you would be more explanative.

Thank you for the information. The matter is that the selected codec - DV Video Encoder - does not support other frame sizes. It always performs resize to 720*480 inside itself and we can do nothing here. You are recommended to select some another codec to get a file of 720*576 at the output.

As for config file - you can learn more about it in this topic.

Why not to use another DV codec, that supports 720*576?

Generally speaking VideoCharge doesn't support encoding to DV format. As far as we can learn from the screenshots, you were trying to create AVI files. Here you could select any codec that was installed on your operating system for video stream encoding - you selected "DV Video Encoder" one. DV Video Encoder is a product of an off-site producer, and so we are not responsible for its work. If there is some other DV codec installed on your OS, you can try using it by selecting it from the Video Codec list on step #4.

I did my tests with freshly installed XP so DV Video Encoder defenitely came with VideoCharge.

I need exactly DV. VC offers one but it seems it fails...

WinXP comes along with a number of built-in codecs, so that only means DV Video Encoder codec is a MicroSoft's one.

Don't you find your answers a bit contradictory? First you answer that DV Video Encoder encodes strictly to 720*480 and you can do nothing with it, then you answer that VC has no DV encoder at all...

Here are codecs that came with Windows MCE 2005.

Could you please point to DV codec here?


Windows Movie Maker comes with its own DV encoder which it does not allow to use with other software (please correct me if I'm wrong). And this codec has no problems with 720*576/25 at all.

We don't see any contradictions here. VideoCharge enables to create AVI files and use any codec installed on OS for video stream encoding. There may be lots of different codecs and we don't know exactly how each of them works and what restrictions are put on it. All we know about DV Video Encoder is that it does not permit producing frames different from 720*480, that it's kept in "C:\Windows\System32\qdv.dll" file and that it's not our codec. And the files that you create using this codec are AVI files, not DV.

BTW, you can make sure that qdv.dll is a MicroSoft's file by viewing its properties via Windows Explorer.

I have no problems converting into 720*576/25 with WMM, but it understands very few formats as input.

I'm not as huge specialist in video converting as you are, but I suppose that if one piece of software can encode into DV 720*576/25 using QDV.DLL then VC in case it uses the same codec (you have just prooved that it does) can also do so. Or not?

Yes, this does not necessarily mean that the files are DV ones.

DV Video Encoder codec is closed, therefore we can use only those its features that are documented, declassified. Since both Windows Movie Maker and DV Video Encoder are produced by Microsoft, most likely WMM uses some features of the codec that are not documented and we have no access to.

In this case I'd purchase it immediately. If no other solution will be found by the date you'll release such VC version.
